Who Does Not Seek The Sky?

When five musicians convene their Echo Party at The Green Room at Crosstown Arts on an April evening in 2025, nothing is certain. But, embarking on a journey of alchemy and adventure, they trust their own telepathy. Flying through the echoes of a lamplit room draped in green curtains, they roam from sky-seeking to blues-bopping to moon-marching in a heartbeat.

Bhakti Lam-Mu Art Edmaiston tunes in vibrational soundscapes on tenor sax and percussion, sparking welcome echoes of the R&B, jazz, and free music he’s made with artists like Gregg Allman or Ra Kalam Bob Moses. He and Chad Fowler (Alvin Fiedler, William Parker, Deepstaria Enigmatica), playing flute and alto sax here, ping pong on-point with empathetic energy and insight, while bassist Khari Wynn (Public Enemy, Frog Squad, Deepstaria Enigmatica) lays out an entire lake of simmering ping pongs bubbling beneath the proceedings. Alex Greene (Rolling Head Orchestra, Deepstaria Enigmatica, Reigning Sound) uses plucked, pawed and pounded piano, Tomita-like textures, and organ to insinuate landscapes molecule by molecule, croak by croak. Steve Hirsh (William Parker, Daniel Carter, and a host of NYC downtown scene luminaries) plays drums, never forgetting Max Roach’s dictum that a drum set is a whole orchestra.
And every room draped in green curtains is a journey.
